Biography:

Mr. Chung Po Yang (alias, Po CHUNG) co-founded DHL International in 1972.   He is the Chairman Emeritus of DHL Express (HK) Ltd. and the Chairman of Good Life Initiative Limited.  
He has a Bachelor Degree (1969) in Fisheries Management from Humboldt State University, California, and a Master of Fine Art Degree (2006) from The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University. He is a Visiting Professor at the Hong Kong University’s Business Department.  He is a fellow member of Thunderbird School of Global Management. 
Mr. Chung was a member of the Greater Pearl River Delta Business Council and the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council. From 1989 to 1997, Mr. Chung was a member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and from 1999 to 2002 he was a member of the Hong Kong Tourism Board. He also served as the Chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, the Vice Chairman of the Ocean Park Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Management Association. He was a trustee/governor of the Chinese International School, and served as a Member of the Board of Overseers at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, California.
In 2001, Mr. Chung stepped away from the commercial world and entered the education domain.   In January 2006, Mr. Chung spearheaded the creation of the Centre for Asian Entrepreneurship & Business Values (CASEBV) at the University of Hong Kong, and has taught a course in Entrepreneurship in the years since.
Mr. Chung has been sponsoring the placement of 20 Fulbright scholars, a program administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars. This highly prestigious group of scholars is the U.S. Government's flagship academic exchange effort, holds on behalf of the United States Department of State. Over a four-year (2008–2011) initiative, these academic leaders will assist and advise Hong Kong’s eight universities on their development of a General Education Program, to be launched when the region’s universities change from a three-year to four-year undergraduate degree academic term.
Mr. Chung is the co-author of “THE FIRST 10 YARDS – The 5 Dynamics of Entrepreneurship and how they made a difference at DHL and other successful startups” and  <草根创业的5项修炼>.   His latest book <落力退休> has been published this summer.  
Mr. Chung has been the feature speaker on corporate culture at various symposia organized by the Pacific Rim Forum, Business International, Business Week International, Young Presidents Organization, Hong Kong Management Association, China Management Association in Taiwan, Singapore National Productivity Board, Credit Suisse, The Hongkong and China Gas Co Ltd, Li & Fung, HKTDC, various graduate schools of business, just a few to name.
Mr. Chung launches a one-day program called The Good Life Initiative Seminar which helps people design a happy, purposeful and fun-filled retirement. 
As a philanthropist, Mr. Chung founded and funded the Creative Initiatives Foundation, an organization that has helped more than 50 non-profit organizations in Hong Kong to review and often redefine their vision and mission. Mr. and Mrs. Chung have restored over 25 broken down school buildings in remote areas of China.
In 1995, Mr. Chung was made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE), in recognition of his commitment to the arts community. In 2002, the Hong Kong Government awarded Mr. Chung the Silver Bauhinia Star for distinguished service to the logistics industry. Mr. Chung was conferred the 2008 Beta Gamma Sigma International Honoree and in December 2008, Mr Chung received The University of Hong Kong’s Honorary University Fellowship.  In March 2009, he received an Outstanding Third Age Citizens Award.

Fung, K. C.

Name: Fung, K. C. (Prof. )

Title: Visiting Professor

Biography:

K.C. Fung is a Full Professor of Economics (with tenure) at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He has been teaching at UC, Santa Cruz since 1989. He got his B.A. (with Honors) from Swarthmore College and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He has also taught at Stanford University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Mount Holyoke College and the University of Hong Kong. At Stanford, He taught a Ph.D. course on international trade, an undergraduate course on international trade and finance, an undergraduate course on the Japanese economy and a writing-intensive undergraduate course on public policy in the United States.
He was a senior staff economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisers (CEA, with U.S. Government National Security Clearance) during the Bush I and Clinton Administrations and he received a letter of commendation from the U.S. President. He was a U.S. government delegate to the OECD (Paris). In 2004, he provided written and oral testimonies before a U.S. Congressional Commission.  From 2006 to 2010, he has been an advisor and an academic collaborator at the United States International Trade commission (USITC, United States Government). He has also been a consultant for Morgan Stanley and BBVA.
In 2007, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). From 2004-2007, he partnered with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and trained senior government officials from 31 countries. In 2006, he was also a research consultant for the WTO (Geneva). In 2007, he was a Visiting Scholar at Bruegel (Brussels).  Also in 2007, he was an academic consultant for the University of Barcelona, Spain. In 2008, he was a Visiting Researcher at the Bank of Finland (Helsinki). He has been invited to be a Visiting Scholar at Osaka University, Japan in 2011.
In addition, he was also a Visiting Scholar/Consultant at Tilburg University (Netherlands), University of Tokyo, the World Bank, Asian Development Bank Institute (Tokyo), IDE-JETRO (Japanese Government), Asian Development Bank (Manila), National University of Singapore and Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (Taipei). He has been and continues to be a senior research fellow at the Hong Kong Institute of Economics and Business Strategy (HIEBS).

Hout, Thomas

Name: Hout, Thomas (Mr. )

Title: Visiting Associate Professor

Biography: Mr Thomas Hout is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at The Flecther School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University and Visiting Associate Professor at the School of Business at the University of Hong Kong.  He teaches competitive global business strategy and economics, with a specialty in Asia. 
Mr. Hout spent 30 years at the Boston Consulting Group and was a partner of the firm for 20 years.  He worked in the firm’s Boston, London, Tokyo, and Hong Kong offices during that period. 
He is co-author of two books, including Competing Against Time: How Time-Based Competition Is Reshaping Global Markets , written with BCG colleague George Stalk and Japanese Industrial Policy.  He has co-authored seven Harvard Business Review articles on international business subjects, including one forthcoming in the December 2010 issue on the subject of China’s strategy in high technology co-authored with IESE Professor Pankaj Ghemawat.  He has written numerous op-ed pieces for New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Boston Globe, and in recent years authored a series of pieces for Asian Wall Street Journal on China’s business competitive development. 
He is a graduate of Yale University, Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, and is a US Navy Vietnam veteran, and now lives in Boston and Hong Kong. 
Morris, Virginia

Name: Morris, Virginia (Ms. )

Biography: Ms Morris joined The University of Hong Kong in 2009 as a Visiting Associate Professor of the Faculty of Business and Economics. Ms Morris brings a broad corporate marketing background spanning several industries, including retail, food and beverage, airlines, publishing and tourism.
As a senior marketing executive of 15 years, Ms Morris understands the demands of an increasingly complex business environment and has extensively used her strategic skills, business acumen and coaching abilities to develop and manage brands across global geographies and cultures.
Ms Morris has held senior global and Asia Pacific regional positions with Starbucks Coffee International, The Economist Group, Eye Corp, Air New Zealand, Ansett Australia, Tourism Australia and Cunard Line, among others. Her experience has been invaluable in executing global brands across local geographies, balancing the need for a consistent global brand voice with one that is locally relevant in Asia Pacific.
Ms Morris holds a Master of Commerce majoring in International Business and Business Mandarin (MComm, UNSW), supported by a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Marketing and Advanced Japanese Studies (BComm, UNSW).
Ms Morris is also a Board Member for KELY Support Group, a School Councillor (Governing Board) for South Island School, a University of Hong Kong Mentor for Undergraduates, and a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors.
Roberts, Elfed

Name: Roberts, Elfed (Mr. )

Title: Visiting Professor

Biography: Mr. Elfed Roberts has been working at the University of Hong Kong for over thirty two years and has taught  on the MBA and IMBA communications courses and business ethics at both HKU and at Fudan Universities. He is also in charge of the MBA International Field Projects to Europe.  He has published widely and has just co-authored a new text on Case Study analysis with particular reference to the PRC which will be published soon. He was also a weekly presenter for ten years on television and is Honorary Professor at the University of Inner Mongolia.
Walz, Dan

Name: Walz, Dan (Prof. )

Title: Visiting Professor

Biography: Dr. Dan Walz is a Visiting Professor of Finance at the University of Hong Kong during the Spring 2011 semester.  Dr. Walz is also a Professor of Business Administration at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
He has published widely in three primary research areas: sustainable withdrawal rates for retirement portfolios, the term structure of interest rates in emerging markets, and the use of neural networks in modeling equity returns.   Articles regarding these topics have appeared recently in The Financial Services Review, Commercio Exterior, and Computational Economics. 
Professor Walz is one of three co-authors of  The Trinity Study, as it has become known in   the financial planning literature.  The original 1998 study, titled “Retirement Savings: Choosing a Withdrawal Rate That Is Sustainable" proposed what has become known as the “4% Rule”  and continues to stimulate academic interest and debate.  A recent example is the 2008 paper, “The 4% Rule: At What Price?,” by Jason Scott, William Sharpe, and James Watson.  An update to the original Trinity Study is forthcoming.
Yuen, Royce

Name: Yuen, Royce (Dr. )

Biography: Dr. Royce Yuen is the Executive Director of FANCL, responsible for leading its global strategic planning and brand development.
Dr. Yuen has over 20 years of brand-building and marketing management experiences in Hong Kong, China and overseas.  He was the Chairman of Ogilvy Hong Kong (2003-2010), a leading communications group that offers integrated marketing communications solutions.  Under his leadership, the agency was named the “Agency of the Year” by both Campaign Brief Asia and The Marketing Magazine in the past few years.  It had also clinched major honours in the EFFIE Advertising Effectiveness Award for five consecutive years. Dr. Yuen was also the Chairman of The Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of Hong Kong (HK4As) from 2005 to 2010. 
Dr. Yuen is also an unwavering supporter of community services.  Besides being a council member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), he has also been a key member of the advisory boards for numerous not-for-profit and government bodies, including Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the HKSAR as well as the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.  Dr. Yuen is also a frequent speaker at marketing conferences and has been invited by HKTDC, InvestHK, as well as the Intellectual Property Department of the HKSAR to promote Hong Kong’s creative sector by delivering talks in various overseas conferences.
In addition, Dr. Yuen is also actively involved in the education field. He has taught marketing management at a post-graduate level for over 10 years.  At present, he is the Visiting Associate Professor and the Vice-Chairman of the Career Advisory Committee at The University of Hong Kong.  He also serves as a committee member for the Education Bureau as well as the Continuing Education Fund of the HKSAR.
During his personal time, Dr. Yuen is a regular columnist for several renowned financial publications. He was also invited by Hong Kong ATV to host a TV programme on branding, which enabled him to share his experience with the mass audience.
In 2007, Dr. Yuen was awarded the “Hong Kong Top 10 CEO Award” co-organized by Metro Radio Hong Kong and the Zonta Club of Hong Kong.
