Our location in the heart of Hong Kong, a city with a rich business and entrepreneurial heritage, confers immense advantages upon our students. Hong Kong’s vibrant economic environment attracts businesses from all over the globe. Dynamic Hong Kong is an upbeat, ‘can do’ city whose business advantages are legendary: the world’s freest economy, a strategic financial and business centre with low taxes, the rule of law, clean government, a free flow of information and an international lifestyle. And all of this is right on mainland China’s doorstep and in the very heart of Asia.
HKU’s international MBA programme is carefully designed to give you a first-class education, real-world experience, deep understanding of international business and sincere appreciation of cultural sensitivities. Our Asia-Pacific focus, in particular, will give you a distinct advantage in building your career in the region, or indeed anywhere in the world, as Asia now lies at the centre of many business ventures worldwide.
Within our Asia-Pacific orientation is a strong focus on China business, which renders our MBA highly relevant to the region’s dynamic and ever-evolving business environment. This China focus is achieved through pertinent and customised teaching materials, the local business knowledge of our faculty members, regular company visits, business field trips to China and Chinese language training.
One of our key differentiators is the Asia Case Research Centre (ACRC), which develops content-rich business case studies to meet the growing need for business education in Asia in general and China in particular. Our research-led teaching framework keeps our students abreast of emerging business strategies, economic policies, management practices and financial developments across the region.
You will find more information on the ACRC at www.acrc.org.hk.
The Economist has ranked the HKU MBA programme No. 1 in Asia for the fifth consecutive year.
In The Economist’s latest World MBA Rankings, the programme is not only and yet again ranked first in Asia, but also No. 27 in the world. Given the relatively short history of the full-time MBA programme at HKU, the Faculty of Business and Economics’ achievement of such high regional and world rankings is impressive indeed. In addition to The Economist rankings, the HKU MBA is consistently ranked amongst the top programmes in the world in other scales.
The Programme has also climbed up in the 2015 Financial Times rankings of full-time MBA programmes for the fourth consecutive year to reach No. 28 in the world. This is a great honour for us. We are one of the region’s youngest MBA programmes, but have managed to grow and build one of its most dynamic in a very short period of time.
HKU as a whole is ranked No. 30 in the world in the QS World University Rankings® 2015/16, and the university is consistently ranked one of the top universities in Asia in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
Career Development Office (CDO) partners with MBA students to help you to devise a career development strategy and guide you through the career exploration and planning stages, provide career and job search training, and leverage networking opportunities to position yourselves for local, regional and international careers. The CDO also offers a wide range of workshops throughout the MBA programme, including workshops on interview skills and cover letter and resume writing. In addition, it holds a variety of career treks and networking events to maximise students’ exposure to potential employers and the wider business community.
First and Foremost
As the oldest tertiary education institution in Hong Kong, over 128,000 alumni have been at the forefront of community life in Hong Kong, providing leadership in government, in commerce and industry, in education, and in the arts, sciences and culture. On the world scene, HKU has established a solid reputation as a premier international university and a member of the global family of universities. The latest THE-QS (Times Higher Education - Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings placed HKU as the 28th ranked university in the world (2015), and the leading university in Asia. These rankings are based on peer reputation, employer preferences, number of international staff and students, staff-student ratio and research quality. The University truly lives up to its motto: Sapientia et Virtus: Wisdom and Virtue.
Forward to the Second Century
Now into its second century, HKU is going from strength to strength. In the 2012-13 academic year, it completed its new Centennial Campus to accommodate more students and provide a state-of-the-art lecture centre and learning commons conducive to scholarly exchange. The university has also received gifts to create 70 endowed professorships, further cementing its research excellence.
It is no surprise that HKU is consistently ranked the top university in Hong Kong and Asia as a whole and amongst the best in the world (ranked 28th worldwide in the QS World University Rankings® 2014/15). In 2008, it entered the Human Resources & Labor Review’s Top 50 worldwide, one of only three Chinese universities to make the grade. Any students attending HKU can rest assured that he or she is receiving a world-class education.
Our partnerships with two world-renowned business schools, London Business School and Columbia Business School, provide our students with unparalleled educational and networking opportunities. Students benefit from the international experience and state-of-the-art knowledge of three of the world’s major business centres: Hong Kong, London and New York. Our partnership with Fudan University in Shanghai further enhances learning by giving students’ in-depth insight into doing business in the world’s biggest marketplace.
Alumni engagement is an integral part of building an alumni community and providing a platform for students and alumni to exchange knowledge and forge friendships. Such engagement is beneficial to both students and alumni, as it helps them to expand their professional networks and creates opportunities for personal and career development. The many initiatives of Alumni Services help to enrich students’ MBA experience. These initiatives include enrichment and networking activities, an alumni portal and regional alumni chapters.
